2009 Presidential Dollar Coins
The United States honored our Nation’s Presidents by issuing $1 circulating coins featuring their images in the order that they served. The United States Mint issues four Presidential $1 Coins per year. For 2009 these are #9 William Henry Harrison, #10 John Tyler, #11 James K. Polk and #12 Zachary Taylor. Each coin has a common reverse design featuring a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty. Starting with 2009, the “In God We Trust” motto will be moved to the obverse of the coin. For the first two years of the series, the motto appeared on the edge lettering of the coin. The move follows public confusion about the location of the motto which led some people to call for a boycott of the new coin.
